Redesigning the Town of Sharon Wireframe

I was tasked with drafting an updated website for The town of Sharon in Portage County. My hypothesis was that with better navigation and an updated UI, it would be easier for both residents and visitors to find the information they needed.

Competitive Analysis

My first step was to do competitive analysis on other township websites. I did this to gain insight on best practices and areas for improvement.

  • Key factors I considered included:
    • Ease of navigation
    • Visual Hierarchy
    • Branding consistency

Moodboard

Once I had a good sense of what worked elsewhere, I put together a moodboard to establish the visual direction of the redesign An animation of the Town of Sharon website before and after

Site Map

With the foundation laid, I mapped out the website’s structure to improve how users navigated the site. The goal was to ensure residents and visitors could quickly find key information, such as town services, community events, and contact details. I condensed non-essential information into subcategories as to not give the user information overload. An animation of the Town of Sharon website before and after

Wireframe First Renditions

With the roadmap in place, I built a wireframe and lay out the site's structure visually. Using Figma, I crafted an initial design focusing on a homepage layout that prioritized key town updates and community engagement.

  • Updates include:
    • Town Bulitein Board was updated to reduce redundant information
    • Navigation is now a header rather than a sidebar
    • Fonts and colors made consistant throuought the page

Wireframe Finals

After incorporating feedback, I refined the design to create a polished, professional-looking site.

  • The final home page included:
    • Condensed and reorganized navigation to support hierarchy
    • Navigation is now a header rather than a sidebar
    • Fonts and colors made consistant throuought the page

The events page now only features current events at the top with former events listed as the user scrolls down. The past newsletters had been moved to their own page.
